Pultruded GlassFibre Shovel Handles when manufactured and fitted with the Ultra Strong Metal YD Handle make an exceptionally strong and durable tool. A specially formulated bonding agent is used to permanently secure the tool head to the handle. This Inherent strength and permanent bonding of head to shaft virtually eliminates the danger of handle breakage and potential injury. The materials used are almost totally impervious to climatic change. They will not rot, shrink, dry out or become more susceptible to breakage through long periods of inactivity. These tools are designed as aids to safety when maintenance procedures demand live working on or near conductor rail systems operating at voltages up to 1000V a.c. or 1500V d.c. Every single tool is flash tested to 10000 Volts for a period of 60 seconds, uniquely numbered and printed with the BS 8020 - 10000 Volts double triangle logo. Thus ensuring total traceability and guaranteeing conformity to full live-cable working specifications. They are highly resistant to most industrial oils, greases, and solvents. They are largely unaffected by periods of immersion in water, capable of withstanding very high voltages and self extinguishing. The tools are double protected by twin coloured layers of special polymer sheaths bonded over the fibreglass core. The orange insulation used for the outer sheathing has been developed for its high voltage protection. A white inner protective sleeve is incorporated beneath the main orange polymer sheath. If the outer protection abrades in use and the white sleeve becomes visible, the tool should be removed from use around live working systems. A specially contoured collar prevents the users hand slipping onto the steel blades.
